The arts have always thrived on innovation, with groundbreaking artists pushing boundaries and shaping new ways to interpret the world. These trailblazers introduce fresh perspectives, challenge traditional norms and create unique performances that resonate across generations. This February, the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College hosts a range of such transformative artists, showcasing their revolutionary contributions to the arts. At the Community Concert Hall, we are passionate about showcasing artists who are not just entertaining – they’re shaping the future of their art forms.

Ailey II: The Next Generation of Dance

Alvin Ailey, one of the most influential figures in American dance, revolutionized the art form with works that celebrated the human body and its connection to culture and community. Ailey’s early life in Rogers, Texas, working in cotton fields and attending church, influenced his choreography and fueled his passion for dance. His signature work, “Revelations,” became an emblem of his artistic legacy and a cornerstone of American dance history.

Ailey’s vision continues today through Ailey II, a platform for emerging choreographers and dancers. On Feb. 6, Ailey II is coming to Durango with an incredible lineup of fresh work alongside the timeless “Revelations.” Ailey II captures the essence of what Alvin Ailey stood for: inclusivity, passion and the power of dance to tell deeply human stories. It’s an honor to bring this performance to Durango. If you’ve never seen it, here’s your chance to witness something unforgettable.

After a hiatus in 2017, SOLAS is back to celebrate its 30th anniversary with a return to the stage. The band's Feb. 13 performance at the Concert Hall promises a dynamic, high-energy mix of tradition and innovation. This anniversary tour is something special.

International Guitar Night: A global exchange of guitar mastery

Here’s a treat for guitar lovers: International Guitar Night is a gathering of top-notch acoustic guitarists from around the globe. Think of it as a jam session where each player shares their unique musical vision. This year’s lineup includes:

  • Lulo Reinhardt, fusing Gypsy and Latin swing.
  • Alexandra Whittingham, a British guitarist with a classical touch.
  • Niwel Tsumbu, who mixes African, classical and jazz influences.
  • Sönke Meinen, who somehow makes one guitar sound like an entire band.

On Feb. 26, Durango will experience this extraordinary global celebration of guitar artistry, highlighting the ways musicians innovate and connect across cultures.

The artists featured at the Concert Hall are not merely performers – they are pioneers who shape the future of the arts. By introducing new ideas and inspiring audiences and fellow artists alike, they create lasting ripples that influence the generations to come.
