Guciardo wins omnium title at Devo Days

Shafer, Huston and Barber tie for women’s title

The first-ever Devo Days were held on Saturday and Sunday at Purgatory Resort, giving local mountain bikers a chance to race in five different disciplines.

The short-track cross-country races started the action on Saturday and Ivan Sippy won the A race. Keiran Eagen finished second while Emmett McManus grabbed the bronze just ahead of Kai Lokey.

Johan Souders and Ian Barton won the B and junior short-track races, respectively.

In dual slalom, Ethan Bergdolt won the A men’s race, beating Shane Eliis in the head-to-head finals. Sam Guciardo took third while Opal Barber topped both Zoey Waage and Sadie Shafer in the women’s races.

The cross-country Olympic race on Sunday was held on the same course as collegiate nationals last fall. Sippy, who raced on the course for Colorado Mesa University, took the win in 1:16:49. Lokey crossed second in 1:19:43, followed by McManus (1:22:09), Eagen (1:22:41) and Kolben Oreble (1:24:06).

Riley Huston topped Tilia Clawson by almost eight minutes to win the women’s A race in 1:47:17.

June Bremer (1:31:31), Ryder Seitz (1:21:33), Weslie Winebarger (43:39) and Patrick Matlock (38:12) won the B and junior divisions.

The A downhill competition was held on World Cup, and Kahil Kem won handily in 3:57. William Albert (4:33) and Dylan Timmerman (4:40) rounded out the podium.

In the B downhill races, down Pirate, Dylan Lewis and Neil Capen tied for first in 2:49 while Barber took another win in 3:09. Waage (2:42) and Snow (2:04) won the junior races. There was no women’s A race.

The Enduro featured three stages, timed on Strava, including Diggler to Last Chance, Divinity to Lower Shang Ri La and Pirate to Diggler.

Guciardo won the Enduro in 12:46, passing Sippy in the omnium standings in the process. Sippy finished 10th in the Enduro to place second overall. Timmerman finished seven seconds after Guciardo in the Enduro, helping him place third in the omnium. Nainoa Love finished third in the enduro in 13:06.

The omnium title included the riders’ top three of five results.

In the A women’s Enduro, Barber finished first in 14:29, followed by Deidre Morrison (14:46) and Aubrey Volger (16:42).

Snow took the junior men’s title in 10:27, followed my Patrick Matlock (11:30) and Grady Thomson (12:04).

Snow and Matlock both scored 298 omnium points, but Snow won in a tiebreaker with two wins to Matlock’s one.

Waage won the junior women’s omnium title, Ryder Seitz won the B men’s omnium, June Bremner took the B women’s omnium while Shafer, Huston and Barber all tied for the A women’s omnium title with one first-place finish each.
