The La Plata County Democratic Executive Committee is pleased to endorse Britt Bassett, Jeff Mannix and Tim Wheeler for the LPEA Board.
We are convinced that this year’s election is crucial to the prevailing issue of assuring renewable and reliable energy at costs that are reasonable for residents of Southwest Colorado. We are not convinced that being bound to Tri-State over the next 30 years serves Southwest Colorado residents or local businesses.
The existing contract with Tri-State requires us to purchase 95 percent of our electricity (most of which is coal-generated) from Tri-State. We can do better. The price of clean renewable energy has dropped below the cost of fossil fuels. We believe that a healthier future for the people of Southwest Colorado requires that we explore other options which would provide us not only with more control over our own energy choices but which would also keep more of our money local.
We believe that the best way to accomplish these goals is to re-elect Britt Bassett and to elect Jeff Mannix and Tim Wheeler to the LPEA Board of Directors. Get your ballot in now, and help guide LPEA to a more cost-effective, independent, and cleaner future.
