I met Guinn Unger, Colorado Senate candidate, when he chaired a healthcare committee. I joined because I was concerned about the high cost of healthcare. Under Guinn’s leadership we researched the question, “How can every other industrialized nation provide healthcare to all its citizens at half the cost the U.S. spends?”
I liked Guinn immediately, but it took me a while to realize how smart he is. I began to notice that Guinn remembers all the details of every issue, that he possesses the rare ability to explain complex matters simply and that he always has good ideas for solutions to problems.
Then Guinn won a seat on the board of La Plata Energy Association. The board was complacent, content to buy electricity that was almost 60 percent coal-generated. Guinn has consistently led the board toward investigating cheaper renewable energy sources.
When Guinn decided to run for Senate, I went to his campaign kickoff. Guinn made a short speech where he quoted President Kennedy’s famous line, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
I was surprisingly touched. “He really means that,” I thought. In a time when the leadership in Washington, D.C. is fleecing our government for personal gain, it is inspiring to see someone acting selflessly, running for office to make things better for us all.
Guinn Unger is running for Colorado Senate District 6 to make healthcare affordable for all, fund education, and protect our environment.
Vote for Guinn.
