Gun control will not impede terrorists

The choice of editorial cartons promoting gun control in the Herald is proof positive that progressives would rather use the Orlando tragedy to push a gun-control measure than address the real problem of Islamic terrorism.

If gun control is so great, why does President Barack Obama’s hometown of Chicago, with the toughest gun control in the nation, show that there were 1,827 shootings since the first of the year, and that 305 of those shot died? That’s more than six times the casualties in Orlando! Another city with extremely tough gun controls is Obama’s adopted hometown of Washington, D.C. Through June, there were 61 homicides and 1,157 assaults with a deadly weapon.

In a poll last year, 51 percent of U.S. Muslims supported Shiria law. Perhaps that why the shooter’s first wife refused to file charges of spousal abuse. Had she filed, the shooter would have been in the system and unable to purchase weapons. The accuracy of the no-fly list is a joke. Just ask the late Ted Kennedy, as he was on the list!

Again, there are two categories of shooters: those with mental health issues and those who would kill in the name of Islamic terrorism. Gun control would do nothing to stop these people. I still support a tax on ammunition that would be earmarked for mental health issues. As to Islamic terrorists, I don’t see much happening until we replace the current president who can’t even say the words, “Islamic terrorists.”
