The clock moved quickly in the Bayfield High School football team’s 7-0 loss Friday at Gunnison.
The game wrapped up at 9 after a 7 p.m. start after both teams lined up in the wing-T formation and ran the football most of the night.
Gunnison scored the game’s lone touchdown on one of the few passes of the night when Gunnison (5-2, 5-0 Western League) tight end Dylan Miller caught a short pass with 8 minutes, 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
BHS (4-3, 3-2 WL) had a chance to tie or win the game when the Wolverines got the ball with less than three minutes left.
Quarterback Kelton McCoy completed a pass on fourth and six with 2:15 left in the game, but his receiver was shy of the first-down marker.
The Cowboys took over and killed the rest of the clock.
Bayfield’s three losses are the most since 2009, when the Wolverines went 7-4.
Statistics for both teams weren’t immediately available.
The Wolverines next will play Olathe at 7 p.m. Friday at Wolverine Country Stadium.
