Hardrock treks around public land

The Hardrock Hundred Endurance Run will make its presence known in the San Juan Mountains, but no trails will be closed for the event, which will run July 11-13.

The course makes a 101.3-mile clockwise loop around the San Juans, beginning in Silverton and going through Telluride, Ouray and the ghost town of Sherman before returning to Silverton.

It begins at 6 a.m. July 11 ,and the cutoff time for finishers is 6 a.m. July 13.

Some people may want to check it out, but those wishing to steer clear of the event can do so by avoiding the areas between the times listed below:

Friday, July 11, 6-9 a.m.: Bear Creek Trail (Silverton) to Putnam Creek Trail.

Friday 8 a.m.-noon: Ice Lake Trail to Grant-Swamp Pass to Ophir Pass Road.

Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Ophir Pass Road to Oscars Pass Wasatch Trail to Bridal Veil Road (Telluride).

Friday 4 p.m.-Saturday midnight: Jud Wiebe Trail to Mendota Ridge Trail to Virginius Pass to Camp Bird Road to Bear Creek Trail (Ouray).

Saturday midnight-6 a.m.: Camp Bird Road to Bear Creek Trail (Ouray) to Oh Point Road to south side Engineer Pass.

Saturday 6 a.m.-noon: South side Engineer Pass to Grouse Gulch Trail to American Basin to Handies Peak to Grizzly Gulch Trail.

Saturday noon-6 p.m.: South side of Cinnamon Pass Road to Cottonwood Creek Trail to Cataract-Pole Creek Pass to west fork of Pole Creek.

Saturday 6 p.m.-Sunday 6 a.m.: Maggie Gulch to Stony Pass to Green Mountain Trail to Cunningham Gulch Road to Dives-Little Giant Pass to Arrastra Gulch.
