Reading Page 3A of the March 2 issue of the Herald, I was concerned to see that canine distemper has been found in local raccoons. At College Drive and East Third Avenue, the raccoons emerge most nights from the street drains like Pennywise the clown and have approached my leashed dog in an aggressive manner.
Imagine my surprise when I got to Page 8A to find a photo of two of our elected representative exhibiting the same facial expressions as the rabid raccoons. Is it possible that a zoonotic event transmitted distemper to these two reps? Or equally possible, did anthroponosis transmit distemper from these reps to the raccoon population? In any event, I propose to set up a GoFundMe site to provide distemper shots to these poor afflicted creatures.
