Growing up, we all dream of performing Herculean feats of strength. On Saturday, area residents will have the opportunity to make those dreams a reality by participating in the Ute Mountain Strongman Competition that will be held at the Ute Mountain Recreation Center in Towaoc.
The competition will feature an array of events designed to put even the strongest people to the test. Before the competition ends, bodies will be pushed to the limit, sweat will be spilled and the Four Corners will crown its strongest man and woman.
The Ute Mountain Strongman Competition will feature five events for men and three events for women. Men will be required to complete the tire flip, car pull, dead lift, keg stack and farmer’s walk. Women will compete in the tire flip, car pull and deadlift.
During the tire flip, competitors will attempt to flip a 310-pound tractor tire 40 feet in 45 seconds. The competitor who completes the task in the fastest time will be declared the winner.
In the car pull, competitors will be required to drag a vehicle 40 feet up a slight incline. Female competitors will drag a Jeep while male competitors will pull a Hummer.
To complete the keg stack event, competitors will have 90-seconds to carry and stack up to five 160-pound kegs on a flatbed trailer. The trailer will be parked 40 feet from the kegs.
The farmer’s walk will require competitors to carry two 165-pound cylinders 40 feet in one direction before turning around and carrying the objects back.
During the deadlift, competitors will be required to perform as many legal deadlifts as possible in 90 seconds. Male competitors will be required to deadlift 400 pounds, while female competitors will be required to deadlift 200 pounds.
