’Hawks mine the pride of Pride

Skyhawks add a third player from Colorado’s Pride Soccer Club

Two more players have signed to play women’s soccer at Fort Lewis College, bringing the Skyhawks a total of five new signees since Feb. 5.

Monument’s Miranda Brown and Westminster’s Andra Thaden signed national letters of intent to play for Fort Lewis College.

Thaden is a three-year starter at Standley Lake High School. She was named the 2013 Midfielder of the Year while earning a second team all-conference selection.

“Andra is the second player who we have recruited from Westminster Football Club,” FLC head coach Damian Clarke said in a news release. “She is capable of playing a few different positions with her qualities. We see her most likely along the back four.”

A local connection also helped Thaden stand out in the eyes of Clarke.

“Andra performed very well at (our) camp this past summer, and she has been very fortunate to have some great mentoring and playing under the Westminster staff. Longtime friend and ... former Durango Youth Soccer Association coach Adam Loovis was instrumental in our recruitment of Andra.”

Brown, who plays on the same Pride S.C. team as recent signees Savannah Boarman and Kyleigh Wierenga, is a four-year starter at center back for Lewis-Palmer High School.

Clarke called Brown a defensive-minded player who is “sophisticated enough to play in the center mid.”

“Miranda follows suit with her teammates and is a fantastic student-athlete,” Clarke said. “This is obviously a group of players and a team that we followed closely. Miranda was one of the players who really stood out for a number of reasons but most of all because of her speed of thought.”

Cheyenne Mountain High School’s Boarman and Liberty High School’s Wierenga signed national letters of intent to play for FLC on national signing day Feb. 5. Also making her commitment official that day was Jessica Singleton of Hobbs, N.M.
