Another day, another split.
The Fort Lewis College softball team split its final games of the regular season, winning the first and losing the second by identical 5-2 scores against Colorado Christian on Sunday at Aspen Field and locking up a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament in the process with a seventh-place league finish.
“The last three or four weeks or so, we’ve been playing our best softball of the entire season,” FLC head coach Kira Zeiter said.
FLC (19-22, 17-19 RMAC) jumped to a 5-0 lead after five innings in Game 1 and held on for the 5-2 win as pitcher Kassie Haubert (7-12) allowed two runs on six hits.
“Nice to see Kassie and Erica (Conley) go out having a nice Senior Day,” Zeiter said.
Destinee DeHerrera drove in a pair of runs, while Haubert, Mariah Stuart and Missy Fundora all had two hits.
The Skyhawks went up 2-1 after one inning in the finale but couldn’t muster any more runs against the Cougars (25-21, 21-11 RMAC). Victoria Johnson (8-8) allowed five runs on 13 hits in six innings for FLC, and Kaylynn Harmon went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The RMAC Tournament begins Thursday in Golden and Lakewood. FLC will face Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. in Lakewood.
