After reading the article (Herald, March 6) about the protest against the Southern Ute Community Action Programs, I want to express my opinion regarding this issue. I am also a former employee of SUCAP. However, I was not fired or wrongfully terminated. I left my job there after 13½ years with excellent recommendations from my supervisor, and the director of SUCAP.
Judy Lansing and Linda Mahlum were two of my co-workers. They are both very professional, and care very much about their jobs. The fact that Judy was an employee of SUCAP/Peaceful Spirit for 30 years is proof of that. It also shows the lack of respect SUCAP officials have for good employees.
Joe Poynter is also a former co-worker of mine. Joe certainly is right that many people at SUCAP are wonderful. However, there are those who use their positions to bully and mistreat staff. I personally saw this happen more than once, and in more than one department.
Sadly, somewhere along the way, SUCAP has lost the values and ethics that it once had. I really believe the executive director of SUCAP should offer some of these employees, like Judy Lansing, and Linda Mahlum, their jobs back. That will be when SUCAP can say it is a stronger organization.
