Southwest Colorado Area Health Education Center will offer the Health Careers Camp for ninth-, 10th- and 11th-grade students, who live in Archuleta, Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Montezuma, Ouray, San Juan and San Miguel counties, from June 13 to June 16 at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.
Students will learn about educational requirements and resources for health-related professions, and explore careers in the health care industry through clinic visits, tours of health facilities, observation of health professionals and hands-on activities, such as application of sutures, CPR techniques and how to check vital signs. A mock-trauma event with local emergency-response organizations will also be staged.
The camp is limited to 30 students and registration is $175. Scholarship awards are available according to financial need.
