La Plata Electric Association board members will hear public comment Thursday, starting at 5:30 p.m. on what fee to charge for reading electric meters at homes of customers who reject the installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure, also known as smart meters.
The hearing is at the LPEA office, 45 Stewart St.
About 75 percent of LPEA’s 41,000 meters have been converted to AMI, which reads meters electronically. LPEA needs to charge to send meter readers to homes that don’t install smart-meter technology.
Comments today, limited to 3 minutes each, must be directed to the proposed $25 to $50 monthly fee. No comment will be taken on controversial issues surrounding the smart meters.
