Heavy snowfall expected in New Mexico late Sunday, Monday

ALBUQUERQUE – A strong cold front is expected to combine with an approaching storm system to produce heavy snow in parts of New Mexico late this weekend and early in the coming week.

The National Weather Service says impacts expected late Sunday and Monday in central and eastern New Mexico include isolated power outages as well as poor travel conditions from snow-packed roads, poor visibility, downed branches and drifting snow.

Expected snowfall amounts include 1 inch in Albuquerque, 4 inches in Santa Fe and Raton, 3 inches in Los Alamos and 5 inches in Las Vegas.

Forecasters say most of the wintry weather will be along and east of the central mountain chain and that snowy conditions should leave the region late Monday.
