The La Plata County Department of Human Services has joined Discover Goodwill of Southern and Western Colorado in administering the program to help low-income people with winter heating costs.
The federal program helps pay the cost of a main heating source. Applicants must be paying heating costs to an energy provider, a fuel dealer or as part of rent.
Benefits are determined by household income, type of dwelling, family size and fuel type.
Applications are available at the Department of Human Services, 1060 East Second Ave., at most fuel vendors, La Plata Electric Association and libraries.
Households also may be eligible for the Crisis Intervention Program that helps repair or replace a dwelling’s primary heating source such as a furnace or wood-burning stove.
For Crisis Intervention help, call (855) 469-4328 or (866) 432-8435.
