I am writing to express my support for Superintendent Dan Snowberger and my former colleagues on the Durango 9-R School Board.
Snowberger has worked tirelessly over the last seven years on behalf of the students, faculty and parents of the district.
While serving on the school board, I was inspired by how Snowberger and his team would ensure equity for all students in the district. His dedication to closing the achievement gap and ensuring a living wage for his teachers inspired me to pursue a career in education.
This past summer I served an internship with D.C. Public Schools. This experience helped me see how fortunate Durango 9-R is to have public servants the caliber of Superintendent Snowberger and the members of the Board leading the district.
I would also like to echo the sentiments of Senator Roberts in her calls for civility. Durango is a special place, but it is also small and insular. The negativity and name-calling between adults can have a corrosive impact on the district’s learning environment.
I ask that the Herald, and detractors online, please take a step back and think about what effect your actions and words might be having on the atmosphere within the Durango schools. Is the vitriol being expressed in the paper and online really what is best for kids?
