Herald, admit Dems want open borders

The editorial in the Nov. 30 edition of the Herald (“

Yet, the fact that the current administration used tear gas now qualifies critics to call us weak.

The Reagan administration gave over four million illegals amnesty in 1986 in return for Democrat support for better border security. It didn’t happen, as the left never held up their end of the bargain.

This policy of progressives to ignore immigration issues can be best summed up by California governor-elect Gavin Newsom’s media quote at the border Nov. 29: “At the post-visit news conference, Newsom called on the city of San Diego ... to do more to support immigrants illegally coming to the U.S., rather than just simply responding to the influx.”

Read that again, Newsom calls for Southern California “to do more to support immigrants illegally coming to the U.S.”

This is proof positive that Democrats would rather see open borders than deal with the problem. I suspect that the Herald editorial board recognizes that policy but refuses to acknowledge the facts.
