Around 11:30 p.m., drivers stopped to assist a bleeding man who was laying in the right southbound traffic lane of Camino del Rio behind the newspaper offices, according to the police report.
The victim, Terence Blackbear, told police he was walking to his car parked at the Herald, 1275 Main Ave., when he was attacked by an unidentified male. Blackbear said all he remembered was getting hit by “hands and boots” before losing consciousness.
“Terence said he was screaming for help the entire time but no one could hear him,” Officer Cody Hawman wrote in his report. “Terence stated after the attacker left ... he walked into traffic on Camino del Rio in attempt to find help.”
Blackbear was treated at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
He told police he had been drinking that night but did not remember where.
He was not working at the time of the incident.
