Second, Ms. Byrd saw this trifle as a sign of some liberal leanings of the Herald. Let me clear the air on this. As a former magazine editor at the Herald myself, I noticed letters to the editor flying in from all sides of the political divide. Some accused the Herald of being too liberal; some insisted it was a shill for the far-right conservatives.
My take: If the Herald is accused of being too liberal, and too conservative, the editors and the publisher are probably doing something right. Talk about a modern-day version of Goldilocks.
