Brian Peterson is the new sports editor at The Durango Herald.
Peterson has 30 years of journalism experience, mostly in sports and outdoors, covering everything from the National Football League, to professional golf, to local high school and college sports.
Prior to coming to the Herald, he was the design director for a regional design center in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he oversaw design for 20-plus newspapers.
He also has served as sports editor for The Forum (Fargo, North Dakota) and St. Augustine Record (St. Augustine, Florida), night sports editor for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin (Honolulu) and associate editor for Golfweek magazine (Orlando, Florida).
Peterson also worked as a designer for the Herald in 2005-2006 before returning to his home state of Minnesota. There he served as outdoors editor for the Brainerd Dispatch (Brainerd, Minnesota) for six years.
“Brian Peterson is a veteran sports journalist with strong design, editing, writing and social-media skills,” Herald editor Don Lindley said. “He also has a wealth of knowledge about the many outdoor sports to be enjoyed in Southwest Colorado. I’m delighted to have him join our staff.”
