Herald’s online censorship is disturbing

I’m troubled.

Recently a Hispanic man was arrested for sexual assault on a child. There was a Durango Herald article online, and a way to add comments.

Soon after, however, the comments on the article were taken down by the Herald. There were questions asked if this man was an illegal immigrant or here legally. It became entirely obvious that was the reason the conversation ended.

Now, you’ve got a headline (as disgusting as the first crime) that a “Durango man” has been sentenced for his crime. Equally heinous, but he is identified as being from Durango.

I’ve got to ask: Is the Herald using censorship to contain free speech? I think the obvious answer is “yes.”

Regardless of your feelings on the timely topic of immigration, this is very disturbing.
