Here’s to lame ducks behaving decently

Big election coming up in November. Sounds like the color might change from red to a brighter shade of blue. That will be great – in January.

That’s when the newly elected representatives and senators take the oath of office to serve all the American people (you remember: the common good?) and not just the special interests of less-regulated corporations and the wealthiest among us. That’s the good news.

Unfortunately, history has shown that sometimes, the lame ducks – those who have chosen to leave or who were defeated in the color change – can be vindictive as they depart.

Let us hope that, this year, they will respect the will of the people and not try to cram through some last minute gotchas when they no longer need to be accountable to the citizenry.

It’s a matter of respect. Do they really respect us and will they deserve our respect when they return to private life?

Should be very interesting to watch.
