Here’s to ‘next 25 years’ of Trails 2000

The Trails 2000 booklet is available for $10 on the trails2000.org or at Maria’s Bookshop.

To honor its first quarter-century, Trails 2000 has issued a celebratory booklet that talks about its achievements and the people who were involved.

The booklet is available for $10 either online (www.trails2000.org/2015/01/booklet) or at Maria’s Bookshop, 960 Main Ave. Funds raised will go to the nonprofit, formed in 1989.

“It’s a celebration of 25 years of Trails 2000 and the next 25 years,” said Mary Monroe Brown, Trails 2000 executive director. “It celebrates trail workers, volunteers, crew leaders and our board and tells some of the stories of the local trails we work on.”

The booklet has three sections: Trails, People and Happy Trails. “Trails” discusses several trails that have been built or maintained by Trails 2000, “People” talks about the people involved, and “Happy Trails” provides a look into the future.

Those featured include many of the organization’s pioneers, such as Bob Allen, Ed and Patti Zink, David Bode and Bill Manning. Longtime board member Daryl Crites, and past board members such as Jodie Petersen and Cindy Dunbar also are featured in short question-and-answer segments.

Monroe Brown produced the book, Will Sands helped write and edit it, and Andrea Litzow, Trails 2000’s communications coordinator, also edited.

Photos were taken by local photographer Scott Smith.

Trails 2000 formed to advocate for local trail usage. It has created many local trails and has been involved in bike lanes, the Animas River Trail and many other projects and events.
