The great screenwriter Nora Ephron, once wrote: “I hope you will find some way to break the rules and make a little trouble out there. And I also hope that you will choose to make some of that trouble on behalf of women.”
I was pleased to see the Herald’s publication recognizing outstanding businesswomen. I know many of the nominees, and I am delighted to see them recognized for their hard work and dedication to their various professions.
Additionally, I am confident there are many more worthy businesswomen out there who did not receive a nomination. I also applaud these unsung women.
No doubt, numerous men also deserve accolades and recognition. Being in business is not for the weak of heart. This is yet another reminder why it is good to buy locally.
My parents were local Durango merchants, and I saw how hard they worked. Nevertheless, I also saw how they flourished in being downtown business owners. We have cause to celebrate our diverse businesses and how they make us a town and region like no other. Here’s to all the women and men in our community who dedicate themselves to businesses, and in turn, this ensures that Southwest Colorado remains vibrant and unique.
