The Pine River Valley Heritage Society Museum is open for the season following a grand opening celebration on Saturday.
Visitors gathered around the newest artifact at the museum, a wheelchair donated by Shirley Engler of Allison. And don't think this is a wheelchair like today's little versions, think more of a really large armchair on some small wheels.
A new display for this summer is about the construction of the Vallecito dam. Planning to construct the dam started in the 1920s and finally started in 1937.
Other popular displays at the museum include a re-creation of a turn-of-the-century schoolhouse and the valley's sheep heritage.
After touring the musuem on Saturday, visitors enjoyed ice cream from Lydia's Sweet Treats.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday until Bayfield Heritage Day on Sept. 24. Appointments also are available outside museum hours. The museum is a popular stop for local families having reunions.
Admission is free, but donations are always appreciated.
