Hermosa Trail hiker assisted by search-and-rescue

According to the emergency scanner, a rescue was requested about 4:45 p.m. Sunday for someone who was injured about three miles up Hermosa Creek Trail.

Butch Knowlton, director of the La Plata County Office of Emergency Management, and emergency services personnel from the Durango Fire Protection District had arrived at the scene as of 5:15 p.m. Sunday. The injured person was apparently attempting to hike out.

About 5:30 p.m., Knowlton said he didn’t need anymore La Plata County Search & Rescue personnel to report to the scene. Rescuers were working to get rain gear to the injured party.

Heavy rain has fallen on and off Sunday during the late afternoon and evening in the Durango area.

As always, reports on the scanner are unconfirmed.
