The April 25 Herald editorial on hungry middle school kids caught my attention (“
Hypocrisy in our world! Women with unwanted pregnancies are forbidden by lawmakers, dictated to by religious leaders (in both cases mostly men), that abortions are not allowed, and contraceptives not paid for. Even today, it takes a male sperm for conception, yet once this act has occurred and a child has been conceived, women are left in the lurch, with too many children, destined to lives of hardship – lack of money for day care, properly fitting shoes and clothes, after-school supervision, health care, and now added to the list, no lunch in school.
Where are these men when they are needed? It’s all about money, not honor. The cartoon next to the article points to the irony of grotesquely paid CEOs (again, mostly men) without no idea how to survive on minimum wage.
Our rules and laws need to be changed. I welcome women candidates with a broad concept for life on this planet.
