Hill would bring deep educational experience to 9-R school board

This year voters are fortunate to have highly qualified candidates to fill vacancies on the Durango School District Board of Education, and 9-R certainly needs the wide range of skills, experience and passion the candidates represent to face the many challenges ahead. But in District C, the choice is a clear one. Richard “Dean” Hill will bring the right combination of experience and personal skills to guide our school district.

Hill has served our region as a decorated high school science teacher, athletic director, dean of students, principal at a private K-8 academy as well as a public high school, and superintendent of schools. He has been particularly effective in training teachers to focus on academic outcomes and is expert in analyzing the student achievement metrics that guide curriculum and instruction.

This background can assure voters that his decisions will be made with a full knowledge of their impacts on students, staff members, parents and, most importantly, student achievement.

As a trained mediator, he brings a measured and thoughtful approach to conflict resolution and complex problems. Hill embodies the rare combination of being a skilled leader who is also a valued team player – any board would be lucky to have him.

Hill’s depth of educational experience will be a welcome, and necessary, addition to the management, advocacy and accountability experience of other board candidates. Please vote in the 9-R school board election, and in District C, vote for Hill.
