We’ve all suffered through a much-too-long presidential election season and we’re exhausted. Adding fuel to fire is that it has evolved into a battle of ugly vitriol. For many years, I’ve deplored the lack of cooperation and compromise between the two major parties to address and solve our enduring and important issues.
For more than a year, we’ve heard, read or seen how Donald Trump has incited his base in the loudest manner with lies, exaggerated hyperbole and not-so-sly innuendo and insinuation. I understand the anger and frustrations of his supporters; they believe, rightly, that both parties have ignored them and their problems for too long. They want to shake up Washington, damn the consequences. Who can blame them? But voting for him is not the way to do it.
There is only one choice: Hillary Clinton. Yes, admittedly, Secretary Clinton carries heavy baggage that dismays many of us, but look at her résumé and her work and service over the last many years. She is experienced, competent and steady.
In contrast, her competitor continues, on a daily basis, to lie, flip-flop, make unintelligible and egregious statements, bloviates about his own importance and insults and bullies whomever doesn’t agree with him. He proposes undoable, unrealistic schemes. All of this reveals his ignorance of governance and the issues, his intolerance and, not insignificantly, our Constitution.
To all of you parents and grandparents, do you really want this man as a role model for your kids? There is so much about him that is hostile to the values you teach and instill in your children. He’s a serial liar and a bully. He insults all who disagree with him. He disrespects military heroes. He slanders ethnicities and religions. Why would you teach your children great, fair, loving values and then vote for him?
And not voting or voting for a third party candidate isn’t the answer. There is just too much at stake with this election. Join me in voting for Hillary Clinton, for our future and our children’s future.
