Hire best person for treasurer job

This letter is written in support of Allison Morrissey in her effort to serve our community as the next La Plata County treasurer. There should be no misunderstanding as to the nature of the treasurer’s job. It is exactly that: a job, not a political position. While getting that job means going through a political process of campaigning and winning an election, once in office, the last thing that matters is the party affiliation or political nuance. What the voters will do this November is put someone in the position of handling the county’s finances, of seeing that our tax dollars are managed wisely and to maximum effect. Allison Morrissey has the qualifications to do just that. To have someone with experience in the job is even more important now as the county strives to deal with declining revenues and increased expectations for county services. Allison Morrissey is that person. She is the only candidate with an MBA and has used that in the private sector for 25 years working with Fortune 50 companies such as Pacific Gas & Electric and Microsoft. She understands how the financial world works, and that is what our community needs in a treasurer; that is how our tax dollars will best be managed. We encourage you to hire the best person for this job. Make no mistake: Vote for Allison Morrissey for county treasurer.
