The American Bar Association recently issued a statement (read it at https://bit.ly/43dNpAE) condemning remarks made by high-ranking officials in the current administration questioning the legitimacy of the courts and judicial review.
These officials appear to call for the impeachment of a judge merely because he ruled against the U.S. government.
The ABA correctly points out that the courts and judges are safeguards to our democracy and protect the rights of our citizenry from government overreach. The ABA is one of the world’s largest organizations of lawyers. It has made a call to all lawyers and legal organizations to condemn the efforts of any administration that suggests their actions are beyond judicial review.
As a retired lawyer, who has taken an oath to support the United States Constitution, I join with other lawyers in condemning statements by this administration suggesting their actions are above the law and not subject to judicial review. The rule of law and the courts are what hold the line against tyranny.
Any suggestion that the executive branch should ignore judicial orders, likewise threatens our constitutional system. I call on Sens. Bennet and Hickenlooper, and Rep. Hurd to demand that the executive branch uphold the U.S. Constitution and comply with judicial orders.
