The Mancos Conservation District is offering a series of grazing land management workshop sessions in 2017.
During this six-day course, ideal for large and small acreages and new and seasoned producers, participants will learn about the holistic decision-making process. This course is designed to regenerate land for better soil health, biodiversity, productivity and profitability using grazing animals.
The cost for six sessions is $300. Full and partial scholarships are available to people who apply by Jan. 14. The cost for a second person in the family or business is $150.
The classes will be held at the Mancos Public Library, 211 E. First St. The sessions on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 will cover whole farm and ranch planning basics. The Feb. 18 and 25 sessions will cover holistic grazing, planning and management. The March 4 session will cover holistic land planning and management, and the session on May 20 will be a biological monitoring field day, with a location to be announced.
Instructor Cindy Dvergsten is a holistic management certified educator with more than 25 years of experience working with family farms. She uses practical know-how gained from her own farming background and that of her clients to help people achieve the best possible outcomes.
