Home sweet homecoming for Ignacio football

Bobcats tie a bow on homecoming and senior day
Wyatt Hayes and the Ignacio Bobcats lowered their shoulders against Joe Archuleta and the Del Norte Tigers on Friday night in Ignacio. In a game that doubled as homecoming and senior day, Hayes, a sophomore, helped his upperclassmen to a 55-0 victory.

Homecoming was kind to Ignacio High School on Friday night.

The Bobcats’ football team jumped out to a 40-0 halftime lead and rolled winless Del Norte 55-0 in Ignacio.

The win moved Ignacio to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Peaks League with only a road game next week at Dolores left on the schedule.

Adison Jones led the Bobcats with 174 passing yards and four touchdowns, and Adam Herrera had a huge night with 133 yards rushing on seven carries and a pair of touchdowns on the ground, including a 63-yard scamper to open the scoring, and two more receiving scores of 44 and 28 yards for Ignacio.

Wyatt Hayes added to the Bobcats’ bounty with a 19-yard touchdown reception and a 40-yard interception return for a score.

Clayton Jefferson had the other touchdown for Ignacio on a 26-yard reception from Jones.

The fifth victory is the most for the Bobcats since 2009 and guarantees an above-.500 finish for the first time in the careers of the Ignacio senior class – an added bonus on senior day.
