Homeless family needs help this season

Here it is December, although with the lack of snow, it doesn’t feel like it. Purgatory is open, and people are settling in to their winter routines, including the Allan family.

I first met the Allan family Thanksgiving Day. They were on the side of the road and we thought they might have car trouble. Eager to help, we stopped to chat. That’s when we found the truth.

This family is homeless, in Southwest Colorado at the beginning of winter. Now, I know that Durango has a large homeless population, and I typically don’t give a second thought after I buy someone a sandwich or spare the change in my pocket. However, this family seems different to me.

They need a vehicle that fits them. Currently, they drive an extended cab pickup with only four seat belts; they need five.

They are camping by Purgatory, but colder weather is coming! As it stands, we’ve been able to help them with donations of food, warm clothes and better camping equipment, but we’re not done yet. I set up a gofundme (gofundme.com/4rfenv4) to help them to get a new truck and/or start them out in a place to live.

If you know of any “live in” job opportunities, they are very willing to work. They have three young children. If you can donate, great. If not, please share.

If you have any leads, my email is Annawestlund87@outlook.com. Please help me help them.

Merry Christmas!
