Tom Jones sat on the Five Rivers Trout Unlimited (5RTU) board for years all while holding multiple positions, including past president. He was passionate about helping our native cutthroat trout, specifically in the Hermosa Creek watershed, as well as the strategic planning and process side of all things Trout Unlimited.
During his tenure, he held the position of Southwest Region Vice President for Colorado Trout Unlimited for several two-year terms. He was honored as the recipient of the Griffith Award for distinguished service in leadership for his work. He provided mentorship to past CTU presidents including Sinjin Eberle, Rick Masimoto, and current president Barbara Luneau. He worked to bring more strategic efforts to CTU’s planning processes as well as aided with his considerable executive and process experience from his career to update CTU’s bylaws.
For national Trout Unlimited, Tom was the Colorado representative to the National Leadership Council and was appointed to the Board of Trustees as a result of that work. During that time, Tom was instrumental in helping rewrite the national bylaws and developing its strategic plan.
Without Tom’s years of dedicated service to our cold water resources, Southwest Colorado’s rivers and streams would not be in the healthy state they are today. We, the 5RTU board, are so proud to carry on Tom’s legacy and thank him deeply for the path he laid for us to follow.
