The Durango Herald’s editorial (April 27) regarding Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, who refused to bake a wedding cake for homosexuals based on his religious beliefs needs clarification:
Phillips did not discriminate against homosexuals or break any laws with his refusal to bake a cake. It was his right as an American citizen to honor God’s plan for the sanctity of marriage. A wedding cake is part of that respect. Marriage between any other form of life is a mockery of God’s plan for mankind. Forcing Christians to disobey God’s words is a blatant insult and discrimination against the Lord’s followers. Our government has no authority or power to destroy what God has made.
Fear of God has disappeared in this country. People now cow down to man’s evil laws rather than trust and follow the teachings in the Holy King James Bible.
Where are the churches who should be publicly and politically denouncing the government and its evil plans that counteract what God has commanded? The people as individuals in the church can personally battle with Bible scriptures in the Durango Herald’s Letters to the Editor section.
The Bible instructs us to be the light of the world, to pray for and encourage sinners to repent, and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in order to enter the gates of heaven. If we fail to do this and cause others to fall, why should God allow us to enter heaven.
Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs sets the example by offering personal counseling and prayer via the telephone, (800) 232-6459, will supply biblical-based written material and offers a website, www.focusonthefamily.com. All sinners need to know how much God loves them and wants them to spend eternity with him.
We need more Christians like Jack Phillips who are not afraid to defy anything that goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ – our Lord and Savior.
May God bless Mr. Phillips and Focus on the Family.
