Kudos to Patti and the late Ed Zink for restoring 50 acres of wetlands on their property and gaining approval to expand the essential ecosystem another 15 acres.

Positive news on our environment is rare these days, and the Herald article (“Wetlands north of Durango approved for expansion,” Oct. 1) was a welcome, well written report on the Zinks’ work transforming hay fields into a sanctuary for wildlife.

Reading it gave a special lift to my day.

The number of birds, a four-fold increase since 2009, and other wildlife frequenting the site have been enriched as have all of our lives, thanks to the Zinks.
