I was surprised by the letter from Barbara Kilpper that expressed her opinion about horses in town (Herald, May 18). The information she stated about horses in Manhattan is incorrect. The horses are not poor – they are very well-cared-for, happy and healthy. Throughout history, horses have worked with people in the fields and streets. Durango is a fine town. False statements can damage the reputation and operation of a business. All the horses in town do not suffer through drunk, loud people. The horses and drivers are a partnership that is not stupid or archaic, but historic and contemporary.
