Hospitals play role beyond health care

Many only see hospitals as a place to get the care we need – whether it be for a medical emergency, COVID-19, a severe injury or a routine procedure. It is true that hospitals provide us with peace of mind and preserve our health and well-being.

But our hospitals are more than that. They are integral to the functioning of our local and regional economies.

Just like Durango’s college, airport and the many shops and restaurants that serve our residents and tourists, hospitals are major job creators, employing hundreds of our community members in positions ranging from doctors and nurses to administrative positions and janitorial roles. These jobs are diverse, they are well-paying and they provide robust benefits.

And even more than just the direct advantages for our economy, hospitals help ensure that employees stay healthy on and off the job, allowing them to financially support their families. All of this leads to enhanced stability for our residents and more money back into our economy.

With our hospitals at our side, Durango and the entire region are positioned to overcome this pandemic and bring our economy back better than ever.
