Learn what hOurExchange La Plata can do for the community at a free potluck lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 18 in the meeting room at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave. An orientation will follow lunch.
hOurExchange is a “time bank.” It’s a way to give something to others need and receive help when it is needed. No money changes hands and everyone’s time is valued equally, whether it’s housecleaning, fixing a car, teeth cleaning, sharing knowledge or helping with a move.
A Time Bank differs from old-fashioned trading because people offer something to one person or organization this week, and the hours are “banked” and then that person may take something they need from a different person or organization at a later date. There are currently 80 members.
