House burns near Tiffany

Fire destroyed a house near Tiffany Monday night.

Los Pinos Fire Chief Tom Aurnhammer told the Times that they got the call at 7:26 p.m. Monday and arrived to find the house at 2947 CR 321 fully in flames.

It was snowing and raining, "kind of a wintry mess." The owners, who he listed as Lee Woods and his wife, weren't home at the time.

By the time a neighbor spotted the fire and called it in, the house was pretty much fully involved.

Los Pinos called for mutual aid from Upper Pine and Durango Fire to help with water supply, Aurnhammer said.

A total of around 14 firefighters were on scene.

The fire was under control after about an hour, but the house was destroyed, he said.

It was built in 2008.

Aurnhammer called it "very well constructed." He said Wednesday, "We haven't discovered anything definitive yet of where the fire originated."

He said, "This is the only substantial fire we've had in some time."

The Woods were working with the Red Cross and their insurance company to meet their needs, Aurnhammer said.
