House destroyed in fire near Oxford

Blaze reportedly started on deck of home
The Durango Fire Protection District responded to a log house on fire early Thursday northwest of Oxford in La Plata County.

A log house was destroyed and two dogs died in an early morning fire Thursday northwest of Oxford.

Scot Davis, spokesman with the Durango Fire Protection District, said the call came in at 1 a.m. as a deck fire, but when crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed.

Three people lived at the house on County Road 222, but Davis was unsure if the resident was in the home during the fire, and Davis was unsure if the resident suffered any injuries.

According to a GoFundMe page, the family lost everything in the fire, including two dogs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
