A recent letter to the editor, “Herald critics, please state what’s missing,” (Herald, Aug. 1), made an excellent point, that letter writers were missing giving specific details of their grievance.
I suggest that the Herald adopt the policy of papers, such as the Wall Street Journal, where subscribers can comment on the article. This feedback would tell you what the public thought of that letter writer’s comments. It would also give the editors a sense of how their readers really feel about that subject.
If you must be a subscriber to be able to comment, it might encourage more people to subscribe. Having more local people feel that they have a voice will foster a greater sense of being part of the community. I don’t see any downside to adopting this policy.
