Humane Society to hold adopt-a-thon

“They’re all sweet. There’s not one bad cat here,” said volunteer Karen Sprague, who visits the La Plata County Humane Society several times a week. Jonell Jones, Humane Society marketing coordinator, said Kinice, shown here, and about 100 other animals, including three guinea pigs, are ready to adopt today and Saturday during the 11th annual adopt-a-thon.

La Plata County Humane Society will hold its 11th annual adopt-a-thon today and Saturday.

In 2012, 55 dogs and cats found new homes, Jonell Jones, Humane Society marketing coordinator said in a statement. The 55 pets set a record for the adopt-a-thon. The previous record was 38.

Adoptions will take place at the Humane Society office, 1111 South Camino del Rio, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., both days.

The thrift shop will have extended hours, as well, and a concessions stand will be available.

Adult dogs have an adoption fee of $50 and adult cats, $10.

Visitors can participate in new games, including Dog Poo Bingo and The Lucky Retriever. Winners will be awarded gift baskets. Anyone who wants to participate can call 259-2847 for information.
