Humane Society to open high-end thrift store

Re-Tail Boutique to sell ‘only the finest quality donated items’
Items start to pile up this week at Re-Tail Boutique, a high-end thrift store scheduled to open next week at 450 South Camino Del Rio, Suite 202, near the Big 5 store. The thrift store will be operated by the La Plata County Humane Society.

The La Plata County Humane Society will open a new thrift store dedicated to high-end boutique items.

Re-Tail Boutique will open May 9 in a shopping center south of downtown Durango at 450 South Camino del Rio, Suite 202, near the Big 5. Proceeds will benefit the Humane Society’s animal shelter.

“It’s going to be a completely different environment than the thrift store, and it’ll be small, curated, really nice items,” said Guthrie Hardesty, thrift store director.

Re-Tail Boutique will have “only the finest quality donated items, collectibles, professional attire and accessories, along with jewelry and unique small furnishings and gifts,” according to a news release issued this week.

Customers have expressed a desire for higher-end goods, and the high quality of some of the goods donated make the boutique possible, Hardesty said. The price point will be higher than a normal thrift shop but less than buying brand new, he said.

“For a long time, we have had supporters who tell us repeatedly that they would love to donate and shop in a higher-end boutique kind of environment,” Hardesty said. “We decided to break out of the thrift store mold and cater to those who want an upscale experience, with premium product, within a completely different venue.”

After people donate to the Humane Society, goods are screened for characteristics such as quality and brand, he said. The best quality goods will be sold at Re-Tail Boutique.

The Humane Society Thrift Store used to have a boutique section, but it was discontinued a few years ago, he said. Re-Tail Boutique is an extension of that concept.

Re-Tail Boutique, a new thrift store, is scheduled to open next week at 450 South Camino Del Rio, Suite 202, near the Big 5 store.

Re-Tail Boutique will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

It is located just south of Zia Taqueria, in the upstairs of a retail and office building.

“We truly believe that patrons shopping at our new store are going to thoroughly enjoy this new kind of experience and ambiance, all while saving money on awesome goods and designer threads,” Hardesty said in the release.

The original Humane Society Thrift Store will remain open at 1111 South Camino Del Rio.
