Congratulations, Rep. Hurd. You must be proud of your affirmative vote to pass the “Big Beautiful Bill” that endangers health care for a third of your constituents in the 3rd Congressional District. More than 228,000 residents rely on Medicaid; nearly 12,000 children benefit from the CHP+ program, and 78,000 residents benefit from reduced health insurance costs thanks to the Affordable Care Act Expansion Program.
How satisfied you must feel knowing that four rural hospitals in your district, including Southwest Memorial in Cortez, could close due to Medicaid cuts, according to a Congressional report by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
And you must be tickled pink by the 38% increase in health insurance premiums that will impact Western Slope residents next year. No doubt those of us who purchase supplemental Medicare insurance will love the hit our fixed incomes will suffer from those price hikes.
And don’t get me started about the cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants that you’ve endorsed with your yes vote on this bill.
I wonder how you, a professed Catholic, can sleep at night. Your vote was and is a sin against humanity. Matthew 25:40 – “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me” – New American Standard Bible.
