Hurd’s silence on the dismantling of our government

Awash in a sea of arrogance, lies, threats and plunder. That is what our nation, once the beacon of the world for the ideals of freedom, justice, equality and fairness under the law, has been plunged into.

While there are people who are applauding this, the vast majority of Americans see this for the abhorration that it is. GOP members of Congress applaud.

Most egregious and dangerous are the blatant attacks on our Constitution that attempt to invest unilateral authority in the executive branch; and our GOP congressional delegation does nothing to assert itself into the debacle as a coequal branch of government.

Instead, it takes a knee to Musk and Trump for fear of being primaried. Out of self-preservation and the drunkenness that power and title bring, our GOP Congress has smilingly allowed itself to be neutered, coequally.

According to Rep. Jeff Hurd’s person who answers the phone in D.C., Hurd is a “Constitutionalist.” It remains unclear what exactly that means to the phone guy or to Rep. Hurd, because platitudes like “he will do what is best for the people of the 3rd CD” or “he will use his best judgment” do little to clarify any elected official’s position on anything.

Now is not the time for platitudes. There is pervasive destruction happening to our institutions and our Constitution. If you are going to applaud as the “Ship of State” goes down, be proud; clap so we all can hear it.
