Mt. Allison Grange is coordinating the Ignacio 9Health Fair again this year. It will be held on April 22 from 7 until 11 a.m. at the Ignacio High School (enter through the east entrance by the bobcat).
This year, 9Health is offering two new health screenings. Testosterone screening provides baseline testosterone levels, which can affect the brain, bone and muscle mass, fat distribution, the vascular system, energy levels, genital tissues, and sexual functioning. Costs of this screening are $35 for men and $45 for women. Vitamin B12 screening (free this year with the purchase of other screenings) is also being offered for the first time. This screening provides baseline Vitamin B12 levels, which play a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and the formation of red blood cells.
At 9Health Fair, you are in control of your health. Medical professionals are on-hand to offer assistance and advice, but you get to decide which health screenings are right for you. Included at Ignacio are: blood chemistry ($35), prostate specific antigen (PSA) ($30), Vitamin D ($45), blood cell count ($20), hemoglobin A1C ($20), and a colon cancer screening kit ($25).
Based on the most current research findings, the 9Health Fair Medical Advisory Committee has determined that fasting is not required (optional) for blood screenings.
To best prepare for a blood draw, drink plenty of water and continue to take prescription medications. People with diabetes should not fast.
