To help create a strategic action plan, Colorado Department of Higher Education and Colorado Department of Education will hold a series of town hall meetings to gather public comment about the state’s teacher shortage.
A meeting will be held Aug. 14 or 15 at Ignacio High School, 315 Ignacio St. A specific time and date will be added to the schedule, available online at http://bit.ly/2s7Rti1, once determined.
District employees, parents, students and community members are encouraged to attend. Online surveys in English and Spanish are available for those who cannot attend.
“To draft an effective action plan, it is critical we hear voices from every region of the state,” said Dr. Kim Hunter Reed, executive director of DHE.
The meetings are part of an extended outreach effort as DHE and CDE begin to implement House Bill 1003, signed by Gov. John Hickenlooper in May. The bill requires the departments to develop a joint action plan for recruiting and retaining high-quality teachers.
